History of Rosehill Farm

Rosehill Farm began around 1817 when the Connelly Family moved from Wilkes County (later Ashe County), North Carolina to Lawrence County, Indiana. Through marriage the farm was transferred from the Connellys to the Sherwoods and has been in the family since 1876. The family home, which is pictured to the left, was built around 1879. The picture is from about 1898 and shows John Carle Sherwood, Benjamin Harrison Sherwood, Daniel Webster Sherwood, Susan Adelia (Connelly) Sherwood, Hollace Chase Sherwood, Walter Clarence Sherwood, Charity (Miller) Connelly, and Henry Noble Sherwood. Descendants of this family are the current owners of the farm. Rosehill Farm is still a working farm, growing grains and raising beef cattle.
